Heliboarding Copter?
Have you heard of heliboarding? I haven’t but apparently it’s the hot new thing with adventurists. The AvA 299 DROP is a helicopter designed to take crazy snowboarders to locations not accessible by normal lifts. The entire cabin can lower them just enough to leap out and carve their stake across a mountain. The coaxial rotor blades spin in opposite directions to provide more power and negates the need for a tail rotor for stabilization. The design also addresses a number of problems with single blade rotors. Hit the jump!

I’m Your Venus
Using recycled materials to be more kind to our earth is a good idea however the manufacturing process it takes to recycle these products are still using energy. What is the answer and how can we be more creative in the design process all the while creating sustainable products? Japanese designer, Tokujin Yoshioka has developed a process where he uses a fiber structure submerged in a water bath that encourages the growth of crystals. Being guided by Yoshioka, the natural process begins to form the Venus crystal chair – a beautiful design created by nature. The process Yoshioka uses will be at ‘Second Nature’, an exhibition he is directing at 21_21 Design Sight beginning October 17, 2008 through January 18th, 2009.

Combination Memory
The Collector USB Flash Drive is one awesome concept that I’d love to see on shelves. The idea is simple. A USB Stick accommodates small capacity memory cards. Custom configure the stick or simply keep expanding, just do your techie thing and be happy! What a great way to use all those smaller cards laying around the house. Not sure how it deals with partitioning unless there are some smarts built-in to deal with hot swapping.

KINECTed Conference
The Kinected Conference project utilizes sound sensors and, you guessed it, the world’s fast selling consumer electronics device to implement some really cool features into videoconferencing. Freezing Former Frames stop the current frame, “freezing” a chosen area so you can text or complete another task without offending the person on the other end. Talking to Focus recognizes the speaker and blurs out the rest when there are multiple people in frame. I might need that one for our video blog (jk Long!). Catch the vid for more on KC!

Oyu Tolgoi LLC will spend MNT36 billion on vocational training for some 3,300 people in the next three years. A memorandum of mutual understanding to this effect was signed between Minister of Education, Science and Culture Yo.Otgonbayar, Minister of Social Welfare and Labor T. Gandhi and Mr. Keith Marshall, Executive Director of Oyu Tolgoi LLC.
